How to optimise a cellular connection out of an inspection chamber?

Harald Naumann Expert

My latest project is the transmission of data out of an inspection chamber. In the inspection chamber is a water meter. There will be one transmission per day. The energy concept is clear. The selection of the cellular antenna will be difficult. My idea was to use two GSM PCB antenna shapes that are normally in use for window mounted antennas. The second antenna has a 90 degree angle to the first antenna. Between the two antennas I plan a semiconductor switch to select from antenna A or antenna B.

Please advice. Has somebody of you another idea? Sketches by email to harald.naumann (at) gsm-modem.de are welcome.
