i'm just checking datasheet of HE910 (Telit). I was surprised that it supports UMTS 800 (Band VI ?).
Does anybody has any information where such band is deployed beyond Japan ? I'm more dongle oriented and have never heard about usage of this band in EMEA or NAFTA.
it is slowly more clear for me: http://news.techeye.net/internet/eu-demands-freeing-up-800-mhz-spectrum-by-2013
For Europe, no.
However, there are several regions that do have UMTS spectrum around the 800 MHz. Note that these are different bands: the band referred to the article about spectrum in the EU, and in TS 36 810 mentioned above, is band XX. I don't think anybody will deploy UMTS in that band, only LTE.
However, the uBlox and Telit modules support a different set of 800 MHz bands: bands VI, V, and VIII for uBlox, and V and VIII for Telit, according to their literature. Bands V and VI are not in use in Europe (V is for Japan, VI for Latin America and a few others). Band VIII is used for GSM and may be refarmed for either UMTS or LTE (most likely LTE).
So, beware that "800 MHz" can mean a number of different bands...
