I have an m2m application that requires an very long battery life. I'd like to extend the battery life by increasing the paging channel period. For the module I'm interested in, the standby power is proportional to the paging channel period defined by 1.28 x 2^i where i is the slot cycle index. With a slot cycle index of 0, the phone wakes up every 1.28 seconds. Since I'm only interested in SMS and not voice, I'd like to increase the slot cycle index to 8 or more. This will cause a delay in delivery of SMS of up to 5 minutes, but that is acceptable for this application.
Will a CDMA carrier allow this? How high can I set the slot cycle index?
