Antenna polarization

Novice

Hi all! I have another newbie question... If i'm not mistaking GSM base stations usually have a linearly polarized antenna for transmitting GSM signal. What are the practical consequences of using a circularly polarized antena in a connected device ? I presume there will be some polarization loss factor, but is such concept feasible ?

Thanks in advance.

Johnny, just but your GSM phone on the table, power on the network monitor and turn the phone 90 degree. Nothing will happen. With wrong polarization you will loss some dB, but if the field strenght is high enough the phone will not care.
