I've spent the better part of today being frusterated in trying to establish a Serial connection to a TELIT EVK2 Development board, using a GE865-QUAD Interface board.
My current configuration is to use the AT Command Serial port (uppermost of the 2 on the board), with connections to the RX/TX lines of the port. It appears that I am able to connect to the port, as my AT commands are being echoed back on the RX pin of my RS-232 connection, but when I send a <CR> the Telit module doesn't respond with an status (i.e: OK, ERROR, or <DATA>) All 10 jumpers for RS232/USB are set to RS232, and to my knowledge none of the other board jumpers should affect the data port selection.
My computer is using a baud rate of 115200, with 8-n-1 (8 data bytes, No parity, 1 stop bit). I have tried using both a USB-Serial convertor (since my computer doesn't have a native RS-232 port) as well as using an older dell with Native RS-232 port with the same settings, and no luck. I have also used PORTMON.exe to monitor the input/output of the serial port, and have verified that the computer is sending all characters correctly (not as valid a test as an external protocol sniffer, but I don't have hands on one right now)
Am I missing something? I have also followed the manufacturers guidelines for initialization: power on, then connect data port. No go.
Thoughts & comments would be greatly appreciated.
It is certainly a response from the Serial port; I can disconnect either RX/TX from the port and see a lack of response echoed in my client window.
I should also mention that I have tried multiple terminal clients (hyperterminal, putty, minicom) on windows and linux, on 3 separate computers. Always the same result.
Hello, I have the same problem, with the same hardware as you (evk2 + ge865)
Anyway you said you tried both USB and RS232 connection but at the end you figured out that your serial cable was not wired right...did you also figure out why you didnt get any status response over the USB connection?
With the USB connection when I send an AT command for example AT#SHDN the module shuts off (led stops blinking)...but I don't get any status response, I should get OK back from the module.
Even the simplest AT command send to the module, does not produce a OK response.
I'm really stuck with this problem, I followed instructions and read them a 1000 times
Thanks for any help!
GE865 has no USB port, so when you plug USB cable to the EVK2, it actually connects to the module's UART throughout the EVK2 on-board USB-to-UART converter.
I do not succeed to reproduce the issue on my side..Do you succeed to communicate over UART port and get OK response from the module?
Please submit your requests to the Telit`s Technical Support Team at email@example.com
We will be more then glad to assist you with every question you may have.
No, I don't succeed to communicate over UART. As I said I don't get any response back from the module.
If I send the command "AT#SHDN" the module shuts down successfully...but I still don't get a response code "OK" back to my terminal (I'm using rsterminal from Roundsolutions)
And I tried every possible configuration of serial settings (baudrate, flowcontrol...)
Could you please send me the AT command log (PrintScreen of rsterminal) to firstname.lastname@example.org
It would help also to get your EVK2 setup close picture. I believe you have some EVK2 setup issue.
Hello, thanks but it started to work
I don't know what was the reason, the only different thing this time was that I received a call when testing the module (I had my sim inserted and the led stopped blinking) and misteriously rsterm found my module using Auto detect!
I appreciate your work on the evk2.
i have been having a bad time setting up email with the ge865 quad on the evk2. the gprs also doesnt work. can you help me resolve the issue.:
my email is email@example.com
